Fall or Spring Senior Pictures? How to Choose & Why You Might Want Both

Trying to decide between fall and spring senior pictures? Start with the look you want, what you want to include, and when you need your photos.

Fall is a great choice if you want your senior photos earlier in the school year, love warmer seasonal looks, or want more breathing room before graduation.

Spring is perfect for fresh greenery, brighter colors, cap and gown photos, and celebrating where senior year has taken you.

And if both sound like you? You don’t necessarily have to choose. We offer a senior collection with one session in the fall and another in the spring. At Ahnvee Photography, we offer a senior collection that includes two separate sessions, one in fall and one in spring. Instead of trying to squeeze every outfit, location, activity, and idea into one photoshoot, we can intentionally create two experiences that look different and tell more of your senior-year story.

Why Choose a Fall Senior Session?

Fall gives you senior photos earlier in the school year and plenty of time before the graduation rush begins.

It may be the better fit if you want:

  • warm, earthy colors and seasonal scenery
  • fall outfits, boots, denim, jackets, or layers
  • photos for announcements, gifts, or other senior-year needs
  • more flexibility before spring activities and graduation
  • fall sports, hobbies, vehicles, instruments, or other personal details included

Fall is also a great option if you already have a clear vision for your senior photos and don’t need to wait until later in the year to bring it together.

Why Choose a Spring Senior Session?

Spring senior pictures have a completely different feel. Louisiana starts getting greener, outfits tend to get lighter and brighter, and graduation finally feels real.

Spring may be the better fit if you want:

  • fresh greenery and spring scenery
  • brighter colors or lighter outfits
  • cap and gown portraits
  • college, career, or next-chapter photos
  • cords, medals, awards, or other accomplishments
  • photos that celebrate the end of senior year

By spring, you may also know things you didn’t know in the fall, like where you’re headed next or which accomplishments you want to remember.

What If I Want Both?

That’s exactly why we offer fall and spring senior pictures as part of one of our senior collections.

The goal isn’t to photograph the same session twice. We plan the two sessions together so they can feel intentionally different.

For example, fall could focus on your everyday style, favorite locations, hobbies, sports, or a creative concept. Then spring can bring in a completely different location, new outfits, cap and gown, college plans, and anything else that became meaningful during your senior year.

Instead of squeezing every idea into one day, you get room for both.

Fall vs. Spring Senior Pictures: What’s the Difference?

If you’re still trying to decide which season fits your vision, here’s the quick version:

Still Not Sure Which Season to Choose?

Think about these three things:

1. What do you want your photos to look like?
If you love warmer colors, layers, and an autumn feel, lean toward fall. If you picture greenery, brighter colors, and graduation details, spring may make more sense.

2. What do you want to include?
Consider sports, hobbies, outfits, locations, cap and gown, college plans, pets, vehicles, instruments, or anything else that feels important to you.

3. Do all of your ideas realistically fit into one session?
If they do, one session may be all you need. If you’re trying to fit two completely different visions into one day, a fall and spring collection may give those ideas more room.

You don’t need two sessions simply because they’re available. The best option is the one that fits your senior year and what you actually want to remember.

When Is the Best Time to Take Senior Pictures in Louisiana?

One of the questions we hear from seniors and parents is when to take senior pictures.

We look at the bigger picture: What do you want your senior photos to feel like, and what parts of this year do you want them to remember?

If scenery is part of your decision, our favorite Louisiana photoshoot locations are also a great place to start exploring what different settings could bring to your session.

And then there’s Louisiana weather…

Our version of fall doesn’t necessarily mean instant sweater weather and orange leaves everywhere. Spring doesn’t stay cool for long, either. National Weather Service climate data for Lafayette shows normal high temperatures climbing from 72.2°F in March to 79.3°F in April and 86.3°F in May.
