The Ahnvee Senior Photography Experience
From day one of my photography business journey, I decided that I would specialize in Senior Photography and provide an exceptional and enjoyable experience for graduates. Just as the senior year of high school or college is a unique, fun, and memorable experience, I believe that the senior photography session should be too!
The Why
Let’s rewind to 2006 Tiffany. I was so busy with my senior year, the yearbook, and extracurriculars that when it came time to book my senior photos, I left that up to my mom. She chose a studio based on recommendations of other mothers – a VERY well known and frequently used photography studio. This being my first experience in front of a professional camera, I had absolutely no idea how to prepare or what to expect. Cue the anxiety.
Not only was I extremely nervous and awkward, I showed up in a neon pink sweater. The staff was not warm or personable; I felt like I was a burden and was rushed the entire time. I won’t get into all of the details, but the whole experience was a nightmare and left me with a bad taste in my mouth about professional senior photography. You can see the discomfort and uneasiness in my eyes in the photos. Speaking of, are you prepared to see the result?

Can you say G L A M O U R ? Clearly the quality wasn’t bad, there was just nothing inherently personal or creative about them. Plus everything down to the pose, outfit, and background was the same as every other senior girl in the last 20 years. Looking back on them now, I wish there was some distinguishing factor to show even a bit of my personality. I always wished I had photos of me dancing, painting, or laughing. Or even a photo of me in MY clothes to show my personal style.
The How
Step 1 – Preparation
GUIDE: Had my senior photographer given just a little guidance before the session, I may have not been such a nervous wreck. I also probably would have been advised not to wear anything neon. That’s why from the moment the contract is signed and the deposit is paid, all clients receive as much guidance as possible. We’ve spent a ton of time creating a guide that explains what to expect before, during, and after the session, as well as tips and tricks.
GET TO KNOW: We want to be sure everyone gets the absolute most out of their session, and getting to know them a little better is just the beginning! Every senior receives a questionnaire with fun questions that allow us to get an idea of their personality including questions about hobbies, extracurricular activities, and clothing style. The answers to the questionnaire help us determine the perfect location, outfits, props, etc.
CONSULTATION: Seniors will receive a one-on-one consultation where we get to know each other & work together to plan out every aspect of the session – from outfits to location & everything in between. The consultation not only breaks the ice before the session, it allows the senior and their parents to gain trust, discuss ideas and desires, ask any questions, and essentially become more comfortable with the situation before the camera comes out.

Step 3 – Choose Your Photos
During the session we will find different angles, lighting, and backgrounds that brings out each client’s identity best. We also like to incorporate our artistic techniques and original and inventive ideas during each session. However, the cool part is each client gets to choose the images that we edit and deliver for digital download. Therefore you only pay for and receive what YOU want, which is the ultimate customization! Not digging your smile in a certain photo – no worries. Choose the one that you like best! Do you prefer your pose in one photo but your expression in another? Not a problem – we can swap out your face in Photoshop! We are perfectionists and want every client to be 110% satisfied with the end result!
The Where
We have a list of locations we frequent for senior photography for their diverse backdrops and ease of use. My assistant and I will travel up to 40 miles outside of Lafayette at no additional cost. We also offer sessions in Alexandria at no additional cost on particular weekends. Want to travel to an unusual or interesting location outside of the Acadiana Area? We love shooting at new locations and only charge a small fee for travel within the state of Louisiana! Not sure where you want to go? The When
The time is now! We typically book out months in advance, especially on the highly demanded weekend days. Some seniors book in the fall, while others prefer the spring. We also have a package that allows the senior to get a few photos in each season, which we highly recommend! Turnaround time is 3-4 weeks from the time you send us your choices, so be sure to keep that in mind.
